S.A.Q. TUTORIALS:

Speed, Agility & Quickness (S.A.Q.)

  • The essential part of this exercise is having quick feet and staying low to the ground. This creates a low center of gravity which allows you to have more balance and control over your running patters and/or dribbling

     

    To use this with your team, have 4 or 5 people lined up behind the exercise and take it turn to perform each step. Make sure you focus on getting quicker each time and have excellent coordination.

SAQ training is used in soccer to improve your ability to perform various ranges of movement, better coordinating the body and the brain. I use these exercises during warmups for both practice and games and even do some circuit training using SAQ during practices.

Try these stations with your team, teammates or simply just on your own. You can use anything that is safe to jump over if you don't have soccer hurdles etc.

  • S.A.Q Drill 3: Roll-Control

To perform this exercise well, make sure you are going at a good quick pace. Keep on your toes and alert. Focus on the size of the exercise (5x5) and mentally adjust your rhythm to help you maintain a controlled set of movements.

 

Take it in turns, 1 by 1 to perform each exercise with your team. Become faster when you feel more comfortable. Use 2 people starting at opposite ends when you and your team are confident with the exercises.
